If you love baking and decorating cookies, a cookie scribe is an essential tool to enhance your decorating skills. This tutorial will explain what a cookie scribe is, why stainless steel is the best material for the job, and how to create your own beaded cookie scribe with our extensive range of silicone, acrylic and wood beads!

What is a Cookie Scribe and Who Should Be Using One?

A cookie scribe is a small, pointed tool used in cookie decorating. It helps with:

- Popping air bubbles in royal icing
- Distributing icing precisely into tight corners and edges
- Creating intricate designs and patterns
- Shaping icing while it's still wet

Anyone who enjoys decorating cookies can benefit from using a cookie scribe. Whether you’re a professional baker or a home baking enthusiast, this tool can help you achieve detailed and polished designs.

Best Material for a Cookie Scribe

The best material for a cookie scribe is stainless steel. Stainless steel is durable, easy to clean, and resistant to rust and corrosion. This ensures your scribe will last through many decorating sessions and maintain its precision and effectiveness.

What You Need for This Tutorial

To create your own beaded cookie scribe, you'll need the following materials:

- Beadable cookie scribe blank
- 2 silicone stoppers (already included with with our scribe blanks; however you can purchase more here)
- A range of beads (Self love focal bead, 15mm linen silicone round, 14mm floral embossed mini hex, 15mm flat coin acrylic spacer in silver, 16mm silver stardust acrylic, 10mm rhinestone acrylic spacer in silver, 15mm brushed gold silicone round)

How to Make a Beaded Cookie Scribe

Making it is simple in 3 easy steps :)

Step 1: Remove Stoppers

Begin by carefully removing the 2 silicone stoppers from the scribe. Set them aside as you'll need them again later.

Step 2: Insert Beads onto Scribe via the Pointy End

Choose your beads, ensuring the bead holes are large enough to fit over the scribe’s shank. Insert each bead one by one through the pointed end of the scribe. Mix and match colors, sizes, and styles to create a unique design.

Step 3: Replace Both Stoppers

Once you’ve added all your desired beads, replace the bead stopper at the end of the last bead. This will prevent the beads from sliding off and keep them securely in place during use. Next - replace the tip stopper ; this is to prevent it from scratching or poking yourself!

Tips on Beading the Scribes

Here are some additional tips to ensure your beaded cookie scribe turns out perfectly:

1. Bead Hole Size : Make sure the beads you select have holes that are large enough to fit onto the scribe shank. This can vary depending on the thickness of your scribe, so it’s a good idea to test a few beads before starting.

2. Flexibility : Some beads, particularly silicone beads, are flexible and can easily slide onto the scribe. These are an excellent choice for a secure and snug fit.
3. Themed Designs : Use our wide range of focal silicone beads to create themed designs for your customers. Whether it's holiday-themed or custom colours, themed designs can make your cookie scribes more attractive and marketable.

4. Avoid Raw (Non-Beech) Natural Wooden Beads : Raw natural (Non-beech) wooden beads can decompose and grow mold with regular exposure to moisture. Stick to silicone, acrylic, stainless steel & beech wood beads for durability.

5. Extra Stoppers : Purchase additional stoppers. It is always a good idea to have extra stoppers on hand in case you lose them or they break apart.
